Hamilton is home to thousands of college and university students, and many of them need a notary or commissioner at some point, often under a deadline. Here is a quick guide to the services students ask us about most.
OSAP affidavits
If your OSAP checklist asks for an affidavit, you will need to swear it before a commissioner, notary or lawyer. Our guide to OSAP affidavits in Hamilton explains how to prepare.
Immigration and study permit declarations
International students are sometimes asked for statutory declarations to support immigration applications or explain gaps and changes in their documents. See our post on IRCC statutory declarations for international students.
Certified true copies
Scholarship committees, employers and schools abroad may ask for certified copies of your transcripts, diplomas or passport. We compare the copy against the original and certify it. Read more about certified true copies.
Lost diplomas and name mismatches
Need a replacement diploma, or does your name appear differently on your transcript and passport? A statutory declaration can often help.
Student tips
- Bring government-issued photo ID. A student card alone is usually not enough.
- Don’t sign anything before the appointment.
- Check your deadline and book early during busy periods, such as the start of a term or financial aid season.
- Can’t get downtown? Ask about our mobile service or weekend appointments.
